IMPORTANT UPDATE ON FINAL ASSIGNMENTS:

GUIDELINES FOR FINAL PITCH AND PRESENTATION

1. As you know your team will be making a pitch on your business idea.

During the class, I offered you guidelines on how to make your pitch. Recall the simplicity of the Buffer and Airbnb pitches. Simple is often better. I would also suggest since you may not have any traction that you include a slide with a timetable and the main tasks you envision needing to take in order to reach break-even. You should also include a slide that show your financial forecast (we’ll be talking more about this in coming classes)

2. MINI- BUSINESS PLAN (your slide deck pitch)

As I mentioned, to have a successful pitch you need to create a script and that is what the 10-15 page mini-business plan I asked you to write is – it’s basically your script as I mentioned in class.

So, here’s how to easily write your mini-plan: do your pitch, then for each slide have a section in your mini-plan. For example, for the slide on Problem, you have a section called Problem, You have a short paragraph explaining the problem and then some bullets points providing more details. You do that for each slide.  Also, be sure to include graphs or graphical representations for such items as competition, timetable and your financial forecast (we’ll talk more about financials in upcoming classes)

The mini-plan should also have a one-page executive summary at the beginning and have an appendix at the end that includes short summaries of the conversations you had with clients.

I do NOT want to see just text. I want to see something that is smart and professional. Please see the following example to give you an idea of how to do this without a lot of text.

Example of a professional report

ONLINE PLATFORM WE WILL USE

I will be using a platform called www.Zoom.us to deliver the classes. It is similar to Skype but much better and stable.

1. Go to Zoom.us to see what it’s all about
2. Click on Sign up or click here https://zoom.us/signup and create an account.
+ When you register please use your SKEMA email address and enter your First Name and Last Name so I can easily communicate with all of you during class. Your last name should be in ALL CAPS.
3. Upload a picture of yourself to your Zoom profile so I can tell who you are.
4. Download the desktop app for your laptop.
5. Go to the Apple Store or Google Store and download the phone app.
6. Make sure your microphone and video cameras are working. Please do NOT tell me at the beginning of the class that your video and microphone are not working. This is unacceptable! Please test it before and fix the issue.
7. Do a conference test with a friend to get used to the platform.
8. Make sure you have a comfortable chair (and pillow to sit on). Make sure light is coming from in front of you (light coming from behind will make it difficult to actually see you).
9. If you are joining the class from your mobile please be sure to be using the Zoom mobile app for the best experience.
10. See you online!
